Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra entered West Bengal's Buxirhat in Cooch Behar on Thursday a day after the state’s ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee ruled out alliance with the Congress in the eastern state for the 2024 national polls.
As per recent reports, TMC workers flashed poster with quotes " Didi is enough here" upon his arrival. Reports also state, Gandhi stopped his journey midway and has left for Delhi. Gandhi’s comment that “the negotiations on seat-sharing are underway” even though no talks are going on between the two sides is believed to have irked Banerjee.
State Congress President and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Choudhary and other leaders were present to welcome him at Busirhat intersection of Assam-Bangladesh border. Rahul Gandhi was welcomed with Bairaati dance.
While speaking on the stage, Gandhi said, 'It feels great to come to West Bengal. We are here to listen to you. I have come to stand by your side. I would like to thank the leaders and workers of West Bengal for welcoming me so warmly. The word justice has been added. Because injustice is happening in the country. BJP-RSS are spreading hatred, violence and injustice in the country. Therefore, India Alliance is going to fight together against injustice. Thank you all.'
Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Bengal earlier planned to cover six Lok Sabha seats. There was a total journey of 523 km in Bengal. This yatra was slated to pass through Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, North Dinajpur, Darjeeling, Malda and Murshidabad districts. The yatra will last for a total of five days in Bengal, in which Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will visit six districts and six Lok Sabha seats. The yatra, which aslo slated to be halt for two days on January 26 and 27 in West Bengal.
